..... A bird we frequently encountered on our many trips to Costa Rica, the spectacled owl has always appealed to me because of its strong facial pattern. However, they were either too high up in trees, or not in good enough light (shaded by the canopy), to ever sketch. So when I found this one wide awake in the Edinburgh Zoo, I set my stool down and tried to capture it in paint.
