..... One of my all-time favorite animals, I have spent many a frustrated hour in Africa trying to understand their anatomy as I sketch them. After three days, I felt I was beginning to get it. Then, when I saw this fellow in a zoo, calmly staring back at me at close range, I was quick to bring out the sketchbook and try for the details I couldn't see well in the field, namely the great eyelashes, muzzle shape and bumps on the forehead.
