Gardens at the Ballard Locks, Seattle

.....This was a lovely summer day to paint outdoors, and I wanted to try acrylics on gessoed paper. I was intrigued to try underpainting, something impossible to do in transparent watercolor. I used complements for the underlayer, orange under the blue sky, and red under the greenery. I just love the luminous effect this enables you to achieve.
