Botany/ Nature Cards

Luggage Tags

Traveling with my husband, wildlife photographer Kevin Schafer, gives me unique opportunities to spend hours with wildlife in the field, something I have always delighted in since I was a girl.

Kevin encouraged me to capture what we were seeing and experiencing in watercolor, as I was never very happy with photography. So now I can sketch and observe, spending time getting to know my subjects a little bit better, and then, if I'm lucky, I may end up with something I like.

These notecards are the result of those more successful "moments in the field" - records of things seen and enjoyed. Each one has a little story to it.

The luggage tags were something I started making for us, so we could more easily identify our own bags, which looked like a lot of the others. People noticed the tags and started asking where they came from, and soon I had orders from fellow travelers for themselves and their friends and relatives. Most of the card designs translate well to the tag format, but some do not. There are also two new wildlife portraits to add to the cards, and also now the tags.

And finally, I should tell you about the books I have written, in case they might be of interest. One is still in print, and can be ordered from me, if your local bookstore doesn't have it. I will also be happy to inscribe it to you, or if you are giving it as a gift, to the donee. The other is available from time to time on the used book market. The artist is no longer alive, but his work has inspired all the great wildlife artists today, and he has a devoted following among the cognoscenti. I do, however, have prints of two of his best paintings, if you are one of his fans.
